I have a non-boot hard disk in my system, known as drive S:. I have created
a few folders on the drive when I installed the drive a few months ago, and
now I NEED to rename one of them and Vista tells me that I dont have
permission. I AM the Administrator. I took full control & ownership of the
folder too, but I still cannot rename it. How can I get this folder renamed?

Thanks!

Brink, I tried the solutions as indicated on that link, including take
ownership, and it did not work. Any other suggestions are appreciated. BTW:
Thats the only folder I cannot rename. Thx!

Try this:
Open Explorer.
Find your troublesome folder or file.

Right-click on it's icon.
Select Properties.
Select Security tab
Under ' Group or user names:' click on (Administrators)
In the lower pane check the Permissions for Administrators.
If 'Full control' is not ticked click on Edit.
Click on Administrators in top pane.
Tick 'Full control' in lower pane.

Ok your way out.
Delete/rename your file/folder.

The folder name is OldVistaDrive160Gb. I saved my files from a 160gb drive
because vista died on me beyond repair. I have a few folders like this
because I'm on my 4th install of Vista, same computer, always by a new cause
of death.

Thx!

Ok Microsvc,

Give this a try in the command prompt.

1. Open a command prompt.
2. Type "S:" (no quotes) amd press Enter.
3. Type "Attrib -r -a -s S:OldVistaDrive160Gb" (no qutoes) and press
Enter
NOTE: If "S:OldVistaDrive160Gb" is not the correct path to this folder,
then type the correct path instead.

4. Type "Rename OldVistaDrive160Gb NewName" and press Enter.
NOTE: Substitute "NewName" with what you wanted to name it.

I did the command prompt steps, and when I try to rename, I get Access denied.

Dave, Full control is already given to administrators as well as for me.

Do you have the folder open in any program or are you running a program from
within that folder or are you viewing/editing a file/document from within
that folder? All of these things may prevent you from renaming the folder.
