Folder view settings not remembered

Despite having this option tuned on, my folder's view options are either
never remembered or only remembered for a few hours/days.

Sometimes, if I open the folder directly the view is correct, but when I
browse to that folder from another application the view has reverted back to
the default.

I can even set up a folder how I like it, close the folder and reopen it
again immediately and it has defaulted back to the default settings.

How hard can it be to make such a simple feature work? What am I doing wrong?

A related problem is when viewing a folder with image files. For some
reason Windows Explorer likes to change headings to include a "Rating",
which I never want to see -- I want to see file sizes and the date modified
usually. Several times a day in Windows Explorer, I need to Right click |
Properties | Customize and change from "Pictures and Videos" back to "All
Items".

Why does Vista like to select "Pictures and Videos" for "Use this folder
type as a template" when just displaying a folder? How can I have "All
items" all the time and force Vista to quit changing the folder view when
there are images in the folder?

Hi Paul

Your not doing anything wrong. It was a quirk in Vista. This lin
will show you how to make Vista remember your Folder View setting
again. Do all the steps in the second method
