Folders don't update

When I make changes on my C: drive (delete a file, create a new folder, edit
a picture) the icons in the folders update immediately.

When I do the same thing on my D: drive they, usually, do not update. That
is, I can create a new folder and in order to see it I have to refresh the
folder. If I delete files or edit pictures, or even rename files, the
changes don't appear on the icons until I refresh the folder.

It's been this way since I installed Vista back the beginning of the year.
