Font & Icon shadow

My neighbor using Vista has a problem with shadows on the right side of font
and icons. This happens not only on the desktop but on any web page or word
document.

Cannot find anything wrong with the settings. Could it be the monitor?
Any way to check the monitor?

Any help appreciated.
