Forced to create a new Live ID account and now my msn doesn't work

Okay so today I get into the office, I go to log into MSN using my
address and it says I can't sign in because I need to update my
Live ID or something. It says press okay to go to the Microsoft website for
details. I do that, the site says I need a new Live ID for some reason with
compatibility or something. I don't have the site open anymore to post the
link. It made me choose a new Live ID to use with MSN and said that it will
take at most 1 hour to have all of my contacts updated from my old address to
my new @hotmail.com one. It also said that contacts may appear offline even
if they aren't, until they log out and in again, fine.

That was exactly 12 hours ago and my contact list STILL shows everyone
offline. I've had my contacts add my new @hotmail.com address, nothing.
I've deleted and readded contacts myself, nothing, it doesn't show up
nothing. I use MSN for Mac, which does the same thing, no one shows up at
all so my MSN is now useless. I have a list of contacts that can't see me
and that I can't see either. Does anyone else know what this is, because I'm
about ready to sign up for a new MSN account. Thanks.

Same thing has happened to me with my @mac.com email address.
Its been a few hours, and I have two contacts as 'Online' now, but all the
others are still showing up as offline.

MSN is pretty much useless now until this gets fixed, seems to be that
something has gone wrong in the 'transfer' process. Almost seems as those
these new Windows LIVE IDs aren't being fully activated or something.

Definately frustrating

Hi,

It can take up to two days for contacts to be transferred.

What I'm really interested in is why they're transferring mac.com accounts, usually this is
only done when a specific domain joins the so-called federated access.

I don't know but it said I can't use my mac.com address so I had to create a
hotmail one. It's been 24 hours now and still no one is online, frustrating
when I talk to people regarding work on there. Guess I just have to be
patient and wait. Thanks for the help.

I had the same problem & switched to using a yahoo mail address which seems
to work but like you only one or two contacts are online. Additionally a lot
of old blocked contacts have been added again and I can't delete them. I hope
someone somewhere has some suggestions soon or I'll give up on Windows Live
Messenger & just stick with Yahoo!!!
