Formatting of CDR/RW disks compulsory?

Why does Vista format CDR and CDRW disks before they can be used? Is there
any way of stopping this?

I believe that this is a result of having a 'packet writer' like Nero's InCD
installed.

As packet writing is not the most stable of processes, you might want to
uninstall your packet writer..

The only thing I can see is Toshiba Disk Creator - can't see a packet
writing option in that....

Actually, I think Vista's built-in burning capabilities now use Mount
Rainier. InCD is no longer needed for packet writing.

If it was Vista's built in facility, we would all get the same problem,
wouldn't we? The only time I get it is if I have InCD or something similar
installed.

If Vista wants to format the disc so that it can be used for packet writing,
I would not call it an error. I have never used the built-in burning
capabilities of any version of Windows (I've always used Nero), but I would
guess you do not either?

I use Cyberlink's Power2Go these days, but have used Nero in the past. I
don't rate the OS built in facility at all..
