foxit reader & firefox

On my XP machines I have Firefox and foxit reader installed. When I launch a
pdf file while in Firefox, foxit reader displays the pdf file as a new tab.

I can't seem to get the same thing to work on my Vista machine. I did find a
firefox extension called PDF Download but I don't like the advertisement
from the supplier.

How do I get this to work in Vista without the need for an extension. Foxit
does seem to work with IE7 but not with Firefox.

What's wrong with Adobe Acrobat Reader for your PDF viewing? It is free and
has no ads.

I have that installed too but it would not launch any pdf files. It kept
erroring out and locking up FF.

BTW, Foxit reader is also free and uses much less resources than adobe.

Confirming YES with IE7, NO with Firefox. Additionally, operates the
same with SeaMonkey, a close cousin of Firefox. So it appears that
fault lies with the way Gecko-based browsers treat this operation on Vista.

It sounds like your trouble is Firefox.

As a test, uninstall Firefox and see if IE will launch Foxit and/or Adobe.

I'm not suggesting you take the giant leap backwards to IE, but it would be
a good test to see if the apps work without Firefox. Firefox is essentially
a Netscape experience, that was my impression of it, and I did not like it
at all but I realize it has a loyal following that would not want IE.

Wow. You are a better woman than I am. You are going to stick with a
half-baked solution instead of going with something industry standard that
works because (I guess) of your principles.

If you are so resource constrained I suggest you increase your resources.
And by the way, don't forgot about the extra resources FireFox uses because
of memory leaks.

I use Firefox primarily because IE is such a security risk. I also love the
tabs that it offers. My XP machines will never see IE7 because it causes too
many problems with other programs.

I don't consider using a FF extension a half-baked solution. Those
extensions are the way to customize the progrm. I'm sure if I mess around
with it long enough I will get FF to display pdf files inline without the
need for an extension.

I can't get it to open in a new tab either.
BTW, how can you stop the Firefox download window opening when you open a pdf file? It never did that with Adobe and seems to serve no purpose.

be a good time to stop until they patch the highly critial vulnerability in
the upcoming version 2.3.
