Freeware Antivirus Siftware

I've had some bad experience, and now don'tuse Norton Antivirus.
Are there any good freeware antivirus programs?
Adware/tracking cookie remover?

I use Avast for several years now.

You get what you pay for. I've used Kaspersky for about 10 years without a
hitch. I split a 3 user license with 2 other people and it runs me $15 a
year.

I have used AVG Free as long as can remember and have never gotten a
virus on my system. Recommend it to anyone!!
