I've just been updating my work on my laptop but a problem has arisen. When
i clicked on Save, the whole system froze, i am unable to do anything.

I restarted the system and a small icon from the program i was using, this
being Microsoft Word was still visable in the notifications tray.

What could be the problem?

Luckily i was typing up a draft for a report and have a 2nd version in case
this sort of problem arose, however i would like to know what exactly has
gone wrong as i obviously don't want this to happen while i'm writing
documents of vital importance in the future

- run a virus scan
- try a system restore
- if that doesnt work, you might need to reinstall the application.

i'm not sure what could cause the problem, it could be WORD itself tha
got messed up

Does this occur with every Word doc or just specific Word docs? Does this
occur with any other type of docs, e.g., Excel spreadsheets?

You can take a look at the system event logs to see if there's anything in
there that might help identify the root cause of this problem.

When the system froze, how long did you wait before you restarted the PC?

What version of Vista? What version of Office?

Do you work for a corporation that has a help desk?
