French police deal blow to Microsoft

by Christina Mackenzie Wed Jan 30, 4:28 AM ET

PARIS (AFP) - The French paramilitary police force said Wednesday it
is ditching Microsoft for the free Linux operating system, becoming
one of the biggest administrations in the world to make the break.

The gendarmerie's 70,000 desktops currently use Microsoft's
Windows XPoperating system. But these will progressively change
over to the
Linux system distributed by Ubuntu, explained Colonel Nicolas Geraud,
deputy director of the gendarmerie's IT department.

"We will introduce Linux every time we have to replace a desktop
computer," he said, "so this year we expect to change 5,000-8,000 to
Ubuntu and then 12,000-15,000 over the next four years so that every
desktop uses the Linux operating system by 2013-2014."

BFD. So a police department decides to use Linux. I bet that gives you one
big HARD-ON!

Just FYI :-)

FYI, if the situation were reversed, you would probably be the one with
a hard-on.

Nope. Not even close. If a big police department decided to go with
Windows, who cares.

Alias just loves to let everyone know when another copy of Linux is used.
It just makes his day

The French paramilitary police force doesn't involve itself in parking
tickets, not that parking tickets had *anything* to do with the article.
It was only a lame (again) attempt on your part to distract from the
subject.

I bet Inspector Clouseau made the decision.

Hercule Poirot did it. I know it. He hates the Americans.

I hope it will have a major impact on the crime spree in the country. They
have so many African Arabs that without Ubuntu it is hard to imagine how
they can handle them. That is 's territory. He is
in class struggle.

What shocks me it that the French do have computers!!! They have resisted
the Internet for a very simple reason (paranoid reason actually) that it is
a vehicle of Anglo-Saxon cultural imperialism. Just a couple years ago I saw
a documentary where they showed a French judge sitting in her office and
talking to the media. Her desk is covered with unimaginable piles of paper
folders with no computer in sight.

This decision will definitely elevate the French sagging spirit, although
they do not give a damn about anything. They just love to punch Uncle Sam in
the nose even if the impact is just symbolic. A major Software and Hardware
nation, the French Republic has chosen its own way.

If you can count anything over two dozen computers in the French gendarmerie
I will give you a dollar.

There are no French in the French Legion! Have you seen the movie? What are
we talking about? They are all on extended vacation after working 3 hours a
day. A380 is hanging on by a thread with as many orders as for Ubuntu.

This is just pathetic.
