Hello.
I just applied a fresh copy of XP Pro, and I was able to do all of the
initial critical updates. then I did SP2. I went back after SP2 was done,
to do whatever was left, and the following fail:
KB886285
KB887472
KB887742
KB890923
KB885250

All in one day! How come they stopped working after SP2? I to follow some
of the help articles like cleaning up temporary internet files, making sure
my security levels in IE were set to default.
Also, under the C Program files/Windowupdater, it doesn't show any folders.
I am making sure to show all hidden files and system files as well.
What could be wrong?

Possibility – Check in C:\Windows\inf directory for the file branches.inf.
Right click the file, check properties, and make sure that the read only box is not
checked.

Note that the inf folder is hidden and is directly under the Windows folder.
Quickest way to open is:
From Start/Run, type in the following exact text:
%windir%\inf
Then Press OK, and the folder will open.

as it turns out, the thing that fixed my problem was something to do with the
proxy server. I read a post or Microsoft article about running a command
line script to add or clean up your proxy.
this worked.
WEIRD because I installed XP on 2 exact same computers at the exact same
location, and only 1 had problems.
