Fresh Re-install, Micro Innovations Laser Mouse?

I just did a fresh re-install of XP SP2 on an existing system. After the
install, one of the optional hardware updates was for a Micro Innovations
laser mouse, which I don't have. Device manager shows a Microsoft PS/2 mouse,
which is correct. What could cause this to show up?

A misdetected bit/ file/ registry entry ? Whatever you do, hide the
optional hardware updates.

I tried another re-install, and it did the same thing.

I'm disabling the hardware updates, but I'm trying to solve some generic
issues.
