I have 2 sites running 2003 and want to replicate the files across the
internet.
The main office has a static ip but the remote office currently does not but
is registered in dvrdn.org. I am working on getting it a static ip.

I know the following questions are ones that I should know the answers to
but hey I am learning.....

How do I setup dfs to replicate to an ip addess which in not currently in my
dns ?
Can I list the url which is xxx.dvrdns.org in my dns with a local name like
xxx and it will translate to xxx.dvrdns.org which then will translate to the
ip address ?
Can I have it replicate to my address via its url at dvrdns.org ?

Thank you for your assistance

Hal,
FRS works between servers in the same Active Directory Forest.

The remote site is a member of the ADF but is not within the tcp/ip subnet of
the main server. Can I reference the site via a url or does it need to be in
the dns of the main server ? Would it be better to connect the sites via a
vpn ?

Thanks

Hal,
The other site does not have to be in the same subnet for FRS. But for two
servers to be in the same Forest they must already be connected, must
already share DNS information in order to find each other and replicate
sysvol.
If you can't already ping the other server using its internal dns name then
it is probably not in the same forest.

Your other question about URLs and DNS is a separate matter. I get the
general idea but not enough to give you a useful answer. You might try
posting a separate question in the DNS newsgroup, leaving FRS out of it as I
suspect the two issues are not really related,

Hope that helps,
Anthony

Tony the 2 server where in the same office. I moved the remote server off
site.

In the DNS is has the local IP address for both servers. I need to add the
public IP in the DNS but I dont know how to do that. If I connect the 2
server together via VPN all is fine. In my DNS I have 2 zones local and
remote. in the remote zone I have the server and all the desktops listed in
that zone. The local server is the GC and the remote is a BDC replicated
with the AD.

Hal,
The remote server can't stay in the same forest if it is not connected. You
won't be able to use FRS.
As far as DNS is concerned, I hear the question but I don't see what you are
trying to achieve by it. In DNS, you can manually give any address to any
host. So if you have Server2 and you want to give an internet address, you
just manually create the host record. Another version of this is where
Server2 is actually a host in a different DNS zone, like abc.com. Then in
the local DNS you can create an alias that says that server2.abc.net is an
alias for server2.abc.com. If it is an alias, then the local DNS service
needs to be able to resolve the abc.com zone.
But I don't think this has anything to do with FRS,
