Frusterated to the max with .MSWMM file

I spent 3 weeks making a video of hundreds of pics, and a few songs.
Finally finished it today and I was using Windows Movie Maker. I went to
burn a DVD and it said it was closing and opening up the project in Windows
DVD Maker. It then had several options to change the menu and a bunch of
other stuff. When I finished choosing all the little gadgets I wanted on the
DVD, it said it was saving or save as, but something to that effect. It
never asked me "ready to burn DVD". The window just closed. Now when you
try to open up the file, it's written as a .MSWMM file.

No program I have will open this file and the programs I do have say that
the file can't be opened. What do I do so that I can have everything back to
normal and burn my DVD? Please can somebody get back to me ASAP because I was
supposed to mail these DVDs off this morning? Thank you.

Or is there someone who can just tell me where to go from here? Maybe I
missed a step, but either way, it won't open, and I can't burn the DVD.

I have tried all solutions that I can find, even just save it to another
file type. In short, I can't even open the file to save to another file
type. Please someone be my computer God and fix this... It was very important
to my wife and the people in the pictures that this got done. I need Help!

Extremely frustrated and ready to throw my laptop in the microwave,

The .mswmm file is the Movie Maker
project file and can only be opened in
Movie Maker.

Maybe the following articles will offer

I had tried those sites, I saw that you had helped someone else with the
same problem. Only, it did not work the same for me. Movie maker will not
even open the file back up even just to resave it as something else. I am so
frusterated witht this thing.

What happens when you try to re-open
the .mswmm file in Movie Maker?

Maybe the following forum would be
useful:

windows mm directs me to wmp after it decides that it can't open it up.

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the
file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

that is what I get, the forum that you provided is one of the ones that I
went to help on. Noone there has posted back yet.

Just curious -- in all those 3 weeks did you ever do a File\Save Project?
And during those 3 weeks did you have occasion to do a File\Open Project to
resume work on your saved project? It is the "Save Project" that creates
the .mswmm file; and the "Open Project" that brings your .mswmm file back
into WMM. Is that what you have been doing?

To be honest, I don't know. I can work my way around a gaming console, but
give me a computer, and... you now the rest. During the 3 weeks I just kept
saving over what I was doing. The problem didnt result until I was ready to
make the DVD, and it opened in Windows DVD maker. I dont know what I did
wrong...
