I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo M1424 notebook.

Windows XP version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2

After installing Internet Explorer 7 I got the following problems.

Windows update no longer worked. Error 0x80072EE2

Real Player no longer able to play internet BBC Radio stations.

Outlook no longer able to collect email from my Btopenwworld account.

I was no longer able to access my internet bank account.

I reinstalled XP and Norton Internet Security, and installed a new
purchase of Office 2007.

The problems listed above persisted, with exception to accessing my
internet bank account, which now works :-]

Upgraded Norton Internet Security 2006 to 2007.2. Problem still
persists.

Followed Robin Walker's advice given in "Windows update won't work on
Fujtsu Tablet PC". in Windows Update Newsgroup; as copied here

For a fix to this problem, please do BOTH of the following:

1. (not for Vista) Download and install update KB927891 version 3:
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891>
and then restart Windows.

2. For 32-bit systems, download and save to hard disk, and then
install:
<http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...st/standalone/
WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe>

If this produces an error message about "Update agent already
installed", then execute the installer again manually, with parameter
/wuforce as in (at a comand prompt window):

WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe /wuforce

After the fixes have been installed, doing a Microsoft Update or
Automatic
Update might still take some time (though not as much as before) and
processor and disk usage, but it should not lock out user-level
interaction
with the system and applications, so it should not be such an
inconvenience.

Problem still persists.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

You may have a horked install of IE7. I suggest that you...

1. Uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6) per
http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html

2. Uninstall all toolbars

3. Reinstall IE7 per http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install,
and using http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.

All of these indicate either a failure of internet connection, or a firewall
problem on your PC. It is possible that these problems were caused by you
having Norton Internet Security active in your PC while attempting a system
update (IE7 install). Please disable ALL third-party anti-virus,
anti-spyware, anti-malware, pop-up blocker or firewall while attempting any
form of system update. Re-enable Windows Firewall if you disable a
third-party firewall.

For more information on 80072EE2, see
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941>

For anyone stuck in your position, I would recommend uninstalling IE7, to
return to IE6, then re-installing IE7 with all the anti-malware applications
either disabled or uninstalled.

Thanks to both Rob and Robin for their time and advice.
I formatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP after installing
IE7, XP loaded IE6 and that's what I'm running now, there is no way
I'd install IE7 again until it is more stable.
Rob thanks for the links for IE7 sites I'll check them out.
Robin I think you are right in saying that it is either a failure of
internet connection or a firewall problem.
I've done a ping and tracert to BT.yahoo.com and the results were OK;
so I don't think it's my ISP Etisalat UAE.
Peter Norton's product is the most probable culprit ;-}
I've activated windows firewall and then turned off Norton Internet
Security (NIS2006), but this didn't help.
When I reinstalled XP I installed NIS2006 before doing anything else.
Maybe the thing to do is to format the hard drive again, reinstall XP,
update XP, then see if the problem persists?
I'm also toying with the idea of upgrading to Vista.
Any inspirational thoughts?
Kind Regards and many thanks Doug

If I had to do this, I would leave all third-party anti-malware applications
out until I had the system updated, and made sure everything was working.

You should check on the compatability of all your applications with Vista
before taking that step.
