You won't be able to successfully run Vista on that machine, no matter
what the Upgrade Advisor said. Every piece of hardware inside or outside
(attached like a mouse, printer, etc.) has a software component - called
a driver - that tells the operating system how to use the hardware.
Without the correct drivers for that particular operating system, your
hardware will not work.
Hardware mftrs. are the ones who write drivers for their hardware, not
Microsoft. The hardware inside your Sony laptop was made for Sony for
that model laptop; this is what we mean by "proprietary". If Sony does
not support Vista on your model laptop, then you will never be able to
successfully run Vista on your laptop. This is a battle you can't win.
Back up your data and return the laptop to factory condition with
whatever restore process Sony has for the laptop.
