Carol,
Jucheck.exe is related to the Sun JRE installed, not Windows Update.
Q: I found two processes—jucheck.exe and jusched.exe—running in the
background of my system after installing J2RE. Is there a way to shut
them down?

Advise you to uninstall the JRE if it is version 1.4.2_05 or earlier due
to a known vulnerability :

Download and save to disk, 1.4.2_06 from here :
Download J2SE JRE
http://javashoplm.sun.com/ECom/docs/...actionId=noreg
Close IE, then install the java package. Having a correctly installed
java package also helps with Windows Updates.
If you're still having an issue with Automatic Updates advise you to
ensure that Automatic Updates and Background Intelligent Transfer
Service are both set to Automatic. Check this by going to Start, Run,
and typing in
services.msc
Click OK or press Enter. Double click on both listings and make sure
that the Services are set to Automatic in the Startup type drop down
window. Click Apply, then OK to make the setting stick.

My automatic update checker fails. I receive a message as follows: Update
Checker has encountered a problem & needs to close. error signature
jucheck.exe, mod ver 7.0.2600.2180,
appver 1.0.0.1, offset 00037678, mod name MSVCRT.dll
I have no problem manually downloading updates.
Any help would be appreciated.
