See http://blogs.technet.com/wsus/archiv...update-on.aspx
for details.

Note, that you *need* to install the new client to be released later
today *AND* the hotfix KB927891 available right now via DownloadCenter
exclusively. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891 for the URL of
your Windows version (Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003 SP1 etc.).

Bye,
Freudi

Windows Update Agent 3.0 (sub-version 7.0.6000.374) is available for
download in the "Standalone" version right now:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe
(~ 6 MB since including all language versions - the soon to follow
offered download via Windows/Microsoft Update will be less smaller)

.... to fix the constant near 100% CPU usage of svchost.exe while searching
for available updates using *Microsoft* Update.

Freudi

I installed the KB927891 v3.0 hotfix and also the Windows Update Agent v3.0
(x86).

The problem however still exists in my test XP boxes.

Is there any other solution to this?

Regards,

Summit.

Could you please describe the exact problem? Even after installing
these two updates, it's absolutely normal, that one of the svchost.exe
processes is *temporary* showing an near 100% CPU usage in taskmanager.
*But* after the installation of these two updates, the machine should
be reacting on user based actions (starting/closing an application,
open and navigate in Windows Explorer, etc.pp.).

Bye,
Freudi

Thanks for the response.

Yes, I find that its more reponsive now even with nearly full CPU
utilization.

We have found the you should not acknowledge any svchost errors. Run
927891 again. Shut down. When it comes back up run sfc.exe /scannow.
Reboot and then you should be able to run MS update.
