Hi, i have a new vista, and its supposedly said to be the best one for games,
but thats a lie. I have around 8 fairly new games i've bought, and all but 1
crash every time i start them. On some, it will start the game fine but it
will crash to the desktop when i start to play and come up with an error
message that says "game.exe has stopped responding". And i've tried the
direct X software test option, the Xp (service pack 2) compatibility mode
option, and the "run as administrator" settings already, and none of them
work. Any help would be greatly appreciated! ( i have the Intel G965 Chipset
family display adaptor, and updated Direct X software)

I'm afraid that "Caveat Emptor" applies here. You should have
investigated further to see what programs run under Vista before buying.
I'm curios where "it's said" that Vista is best for games..... MS has
provided a list of these programs for months.....

Try posting the specific games you are talking about. Maybe someone has
figured out how to get it to run.

I read somewhere that you should download and install DirectX 9 to be
compatible with many 3D games..

We got our Vista from a BEST-BUY store, and we had gone through everything
about the system with customer support at that time, and they told us that it
was the best for games and media. Obviously they were the ones not telling
the truth. Anyways, i have; Whirlwind over Vietnam / Resident Evil 4 /
BATTLEFIELD 1942+Vietnam / Flight Simulator 2004 / CALL of DUTY / CARS / MAX
PAYNE / and ARTHUR. We also have several other older games but most work.

sounds like your motherboard has onboard video, if so then that's your
problem.
have a look at your motherboard to see if it has a video slot, [PCI-E or
AGP]
if so then you could add a 3d video card

Gaza is absolutely correct - if u dont have a good card u might as well
forget it.

ps - be careful dealin' with best buy - i have a friend who took his machine
there & they told him he needed a new hard drive - all i had to do was
reformat the drive for him & it was good as new. the "GEEK Squad" should
have known this if they are as knowledgable as they advertise.

good luck

Hello everyone....I'm new here so be kind to the noob:

Anyway...I'm having the exact same problem. All but one of my games no
get the ".exe has stopped working", games such as; Gears Of War, Nee
For Speed Prostreet, Bioshock, Crysis, etc. The only game that does wor
is Call Of Duty 4. Now, all of these games worked a while ago but no
they all give me the same error. I have tried several different driver
(mobo, gpu, soundcard) but no luck. My OS (Vista64) is up to date wit
all updates installed. Also its not because my system (-Inno3d Nforc
680i SLI, Asus 8800GTS 640mb, Creative X-fi Xtreme Gamer, 4gigs of DDR
800 ram, 3x 500gb Seagate Barraguda Sata2 hd's-) couldn't run thes
games. All other software are also up to date (directX, etc). I di
install the service pack beta a while ago, but the games worked afte
that as well so it can't be that. This is a more recent issue. M
Antivirus and Spyware tell me my system is clean. Only solution I ca
think of right now is to do a complete re-install, but I would rathe
not do that. I'll try to run RegCure and some other cleaners, but
don't think they'll fix this issue completely. But still it's "good" t
see i'm not the only one having this problem, so it might be somethin
that just has to be fixed in future updates...But ANY help would b
greatly appreciated

I have just 'upgraded' to a XFI card from a audigy2 ZS and have the same
problems described above.

Previously I was able to play Call of Duty 4 under vista without
problems now I have the .exe stopped error each time I try and play it.

I will try and reinstall the older sound card and see if that makes the
difference....
