Ok I am at my wits end, this all started 3 months ago, this machine was
running like a champ for 6 months. I started crashing every 10 mins in
Age of Conan, I also noticed that Crysis was crashing as well. The crash
info from AOC seemed to point to a mem. issue so I replaced the 4 gigs
memory with 8 gigs of kingston; no change still crashing; windows
reinstall no change (tried latest and greatest video drivers). I even
noticed I can't play Call of duty 2, crashed in 5 mins. Thinking maybe
it's the video card so I ran the furmark test and it ran fine for 10
mins or so, started to get close to 110 so I stop the test. I also ran
the Atitool and it ran fine for some time as well, Ran another video
test and it ran to the end.

Now I ran the Intelburn test and it never got to 1 pass, it blue screen
on me, what is that all about. So I am thinking maybe the CPU or
motherboard, but how do I determine? I will try and find the window
dumps files and post them when i get home. I tried running the memtest
but it doesn't seem to like the 8gig thing will only do 2047 at a time.

System specs:

AMD X2 6400 AM2

ASUS M2N SLI AM2 NFORCE 560

EVGA NVIDIA 9800GT 512MB PCI-E

4x2gig dual channel pc6400 currently running at detected speed of
pc5200 (not tried upping voltage to get the 6400)

WINDOWS VISTA HOME BASIC 64-BIT SP1

Corsair TX650W 650-Watt Power Supply

Someone got a good game plan for me?

You have an overheating problem somewhere. Open your case and check your
fans.

I will double check but I am sure all 4 fans are running.

I will also retest with the cover off and a floor fan blowing into it.

You are a gamer and your system is most likely overclocked. I posted the newsgroup
to which you should post to. They run into this issue daily and they can direct you
on how to rectify your crashing problems when playing the games. Non gamers have no
or very little idea when it comes to fixing issues while and during when you are
playing the games

Fans all working, even tried with a floor fan blowing into the case, no
change. I did some searching on the 9800gt and its normal operating temp
range is stated to be 80 - 100c.
hanging around 85C playing COD2. Only the furmark test heats it up past
100C.
So not thinking its a heat issue. I ran memtet86 today for a good 2
hours for 1 pass and no errors in the memory so I am good there.
The Intel Burn test is still troubling, I set it to only test 100 meg
and it did complete 3 passes but the 3rd one was not inline with the
first 2 so it fails.

Using any heat sink (thermal) compound (processor/ fan heat sink)?

Heat issues can be subtle.

Once with an new AMD chip, Win95 crashed with a red screen. The error
was essentially, the processor was to hot and the OS was shutting down
for protection of the hardware. Haven't see such a message before or
after.

Thermal compound solved the problem. I'm not a gamer.

Ok problem found, High CPU! Real high, seems my fan and heatsink had
become clogged with dust. Thing was running at 70c idle! Got it back
down to 40c idle and all is well now.

yeah, crysis will overheat your system real fast. when you install
crysis it will run with default settings recommended for your machine,
usually you can go way higher than the default with good framerate but
you shouldnt play for more than 2 hours at a time.

I have a 9800 GTX+ ( see my specs) crysis defaults to medium settings
but I run on very high with max res and good fps(30+ dips to 20), but if
i play for to long without letting my system cool i get the nvlddkm
error
