I have installed a new game but it is jumpy. It isnt jumpy all the time. As
its a car game and other traffic or i go into a more detailed place, its
then when it goes jumpy
like it has a shortage or graphics memory or something. Is there a booster i
can add to my Media Accelerator or anything thaat will increase the memery.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium
2GB Ram
and 1.4Ghz processor.

The game is 18 Wheels Of Steel Convoy but it was made in 2005, and even when
i change the graphics to low there is no change.

P.S i have tried in the game section but no one has answered.

Thanks

What video card do you have?
What are the system requirements of the game?
Have you looked on the game's support website for known issues?

Hi Matt,

You need to provide more details about your machine in order for someone to
be able to assist you, and please note that it may be several days before you
get a reply to a post and that it is possible that you might not get a reply
at all. To start things off, let me ask you a question. Are you using
on-board graphics or do you have a graphics card installed? Generally
speaking, on-board graphics are fine for office work, but they are not really
suited to gaming. From the basic information you provided, your system meets
the 'Premium Ready' system requirements for Windows Vista. However, your CPU
is at the lower end of the spectrum, and you might find an improvement if you
upgraded it to a faster model. Also, make sure that you have installed the
latest graphics driver from the manufacturer.

Thanks for both of your help i will try and get as much information as i can.
First these are the system requirments for the game as you can see it dosent
really demand good graphics.
Windows® 98/ME/XP CD • Pentium® III 800 MHz or faster • 256 MB RAM •
DirectX® 9.0 (included on CD) • 32 MB 3D video card with T&L and DirectX 9.0
compliant video drivers • DirectX 9.0 compatible sound card • 400 MB free
hard disk space • 8X CD-ROM drive • Mouse • Keyboard

For the media accelerator this is what i can find,

ntel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile Report

Report Date: 03/08/2008

The thing i find strange is that i can run other games that require higher
spec like a train simulator 2002 and a flight simulator 1998 these games
require much more spec than this game. As i say its a car game when there is
alot of traffic or i go into a city it seems to slow down and go jumpy. I
really want to get this sorted out, is there anything i can either download
or chan ge any setting that will boost the performance of the game. Thanks
for the help guys.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the reply. I see from your system specifications that you are
using a laptop. Some games, although your system may meet or even exceed the
requirements, will not run satisfactorily on such systems. In addition, I
notice that the specs for the game do not mention Vista. This isn't
surprising since the game was manufactured before the release of Vista. You
may need to run this game in compatibility mode. On checking the game
manufacturer's website, there is a patch available for this game, however
this an old patch released in 2006. It may or may not help you with your
problem. Keep checking the game manufacturer's website to see if there are
any newer patches to enable the game to perform better when run in Vista,
although this would seem unlikely as this is the latest update that I could
find. As you note, other games seem to run OK in Vista, but this is exactly
the same situation that we had when upgrading from Win98SE to XP - some games
would work whilst others wouldn't (or at least, not satisfactorily without a
patch).

Thanks for your good work at providing the details. I think Dwarf covered it
all. You don't have a gaming laptop, but it's more a compatibility issue.
Some older games will run in a non-native operating system and some games
won't. Try the things that Dwarf suggested and if nothing works, then I'm
sorry but the game won't work in Vista the way it should.

Hi Matt,

I posted the links in my previous post, but here they are again. The first
is to the main page of the manufacturer's website and the second is to the
support page for your particular game.

Right the situation is:

I updated using the 2006 patch made alot of changed turning it to version
1.02. Infact it made it worse, when you set the graphics to low on it it is
not bad but still to jumpy to play. Like you said it needs to be played in
compatability mode, how do i do that?

Thanks any other help will be appreciated.

I am now starting to think it is a game related problem as when i hit the
button that shows the processes on start up well on the main menu it just
shows a stream of buffering error untill i acctually click start. I am not
sure. I am stull curious as how to start a game in windows vista
compatability mode.

Will leave it till the morning.

Cheers for the help.
