Gangland v1.04 : won't run anymore after OS patching

Patched W2k with the SP4 - Rollback patch (31 MB). Since then i can't play
Gangland anymore. It is StarForce protected. When i execute it, it is listed
in the processes list, and not in the application list! Full processor load,
and the process can't be quited. I even don't get the StarForce window check
anymore, so it hangs before that. Uninstalled, rebooted with re-installing
and updating, and same problem. Normally after a new install he asks for disc
and serial key, but it already hangs before that.

Also contacted the developer and publisher, but i wonder what it can be. A
newer game with SF protection runs fine, even after OS patching.
