Garbled display when i start up computer

when i start the comp. the display is garbled up i can barly se the start
button to restart the computer then after restart display is fine im running
win xp home ed on a sony viao pcg-grv680 lap top it has 64 meg ati mobility
radeon 9000 vid card i have changed display settings to highest -to lowest
settings but prob still persists. any one have any suggestions.

look for latest ati driver from ati.com

Except ATI do not, I recollect supply mobile radeon drivers, you have to get
them from the sys manu. in this case Sony.
For some reason your display driver is not loading correctly on the initial
startup. This could be either, an updated driver is required, from Sony Viao
web site, there is a corruption problem, or you have a hardware problem ie
an electrical contact is not being made.
