Garbled graphics in Vista pre installed games

I'm just reproducing an issue that user Peachy brought forth some months ago
in this NG. All games in Vista are displaying some corrupt textures, but
work just fine apart from the visual defects. The wood texture appears
corrupt in Chess Titans, The leaf background in all card games does it too.
In Mahjong tiles, the start screen is showing half corrupt, half ok, and the
fishbone-knitting background also shows up problematically. Lastly, In
Minesweeper, the icons for the clock and mine/flower in the lower pane, as
well as the icons of the mines/flowers in the playing field, also show up
corrupted. Has anyone else encountered those problems? And does any solution
exist? I tried all versions of drivers for my ATi x1300 gpu...and the
microsoft default ones, to no effect.

Also, don't know if that's a related problem or not, when in the picture
slideshow in Vista, the text in menus and on-screen (like Exit, Themes etc)
shows up corrupted as well and illegible.

My rig is a brand new laptop from Acer, and it came with those problems
pre-installed :P
Vista Home Premium, AMD Turion x2, ATI x1300, 1024 mb RAM

As its brand new I'd return it and tell them to fix it, or give you a better
model which works.

Usually no problems in "normal" games.

But the vista games, get borked for me aswell,
especially the one where you have to draw lines to move
some balls to some holes.. Sometimes those balls are squares
or simply not there. lmao..

And the "purble place" looks as if im trying to tourch my computer
while playing..

But since i dont have any gfx issues in regular running games,
i tent to ignore this bug, if it is..

Well its highly likely to be a video driver bug.

Yeah I guess it's a driver bug, too.

I forgot to mention that I also experienced the same problem on my desktop
computer, where I dual-booted Vista RC1 in winter. All games worked nicely
until a month after the installation, where they showed similar problems,
with the backgrounds getting corrupt. So I believe it's a system-independent
problem.

One thought is that both computers run on ATI gpus, the desktop on an ATI
radeon 9600 and the laptop on a newer ATI mobility radeon x1300. The drivers
for the laptop, though are being provided by Acer and not ATI (OEM license
stuff or something) and I guess they are not the latest stuff, so they might
not be the ideal treat for vista. do you think that if I download the
desktop drivers for the same configuration (vista32 + radeon x1300) I'll be
ok?

And as for the corrupted visuals problem, since at least 2-3 other people
had the same in this NG, and I guess it's happened to others, has any
solution been found?

The desktop drivers should install properly, as far as I can remember ATI
scrapped all the silly hardware checks that still dog nVidia.

Finally I decided to roll back to the drivers that came pre-installed from
Acer. Not the included in Vista ones, the betas from Acer. And they worked
finely....the problem was fixed. Too bad the newer drivers, out of beta
already, are not offered on Acer's site, since ATI is following the policy
"support and drivers from your manufacturer"....

Thanks anyway Paul!
