Well I think that should be Bill Gates (and the CEO, Board, and staff of
Microsoft Corporation) plus Sony, and Philips, and HP ... since these are
the bastards who have been promoting the Mt Rainier specification since, oh,
2001; as a way of providing industry standard packet-writing to replace the
myriad proprietary earlier schemes, such as InCD and DirectCD.
Microsoft announced at WinHEC 2001 the next major release of Windows
("Longhorn" which became Vista) would use the multi-vendor Mt Rainer
specification for packet writing. It shouldn't take anyone by surprise.
Vista is Microsoft's first OS to natively support Mt Rainier out-of-the-box,
in the core of the OS. Compatibility is a Good Thing, but sometimes
something old has to make way for something new.
If you have important legacy applications which cannot run on Vista, you can
keep a machine running XP handy. Or (more plausibly) download Virtual PC for
free
(
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...c/default.mspx),
and run an XP VM on your Vista desktop for old apps. But, since you can read
and write files to CDs and DVDs in Vista "as is", you might not really need
that old packet writing software?

Is that the bit about fornication, wickedness, covetousness, debate, deceit,
whisperers, boasters, inventors of evil things, etc? Holy crap - I match all
of those qualities! I also match the bit about being a debtor to Greeks, and
to barbarians. How do I get out of being in debt to Greeks?
