Gateway PC booting up into System Recovery Console

I have a Gateway PC that keeps booting into the Gateway System Recover
Console all the time. System Restore does not work and I cannot get int
safe mode. I decided to get into the System Recovery Console and into
command prompt to see what's going on. I used the Diskpart utility an
found out that the Recovery partition is set to Boot and not my
primary partition. How do I make Diskpart set my C primary partition a
bootable again?

Patience is a virtue.

Translation: this isn't a drive-thru window at your local fast-tech
service shop where you get instant answers by request.

Also, your advice was presented in a gentle manner. I would have been a bit
sharper of tongue, so I'm glad you responded, rather than me :-)

Hi Jonathan,

If I understood you correctly, you wish to set the C o/s partitio
Active

X:\Sources>DISKPAR

DISKPART> SEL DISK

Disk 0 is now the selected disk

DISKPART> LIS VO

Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status
Inf
---------- --- ----------- ----- ---------- ------- ---------
-------
Volume 0 F DVD-ROM 0 B No Medi
Volume 1 C VISTA NTFS Partition 30 GB Healthy
Volume 2 D 7137 x64 NTFS Partition 25 GB Healthy

DISKPART> SEL VOL

Volume 1 is the selected volume

DISKPART> AC

DiskPart marked the current partition as active

DISKPART> EX

Hope it help

No, and they won't be. Apparently you completely failed to understand Bill
Daggett's post, which offered you some useful advice.

SIW2,
Here is the Diskpart output:
Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info
------------ -- ------ -- ---- ---- ------ ----
....
Volume 3 X Recovery NTFS Partition 16 GB Healthy Boot
....
Volume 4 C Harddrive NTFS Partition 580 GB Healthy
....

As you can see, the Recovery partition is set to Boot. Even when I set
the C Drive to Active, it still does not boot the C drive. The Boot flag
is still set to the Recovery drive. I have wasted all day on this and I
still can't figure it out!! Thanks for your help!!!

Hi Jonathan,

Actually, the 7 dvd is better at fixing Vista than the Vista disc is.

You need to d/l the whole 7100RC .iso from here , choose the same bit
version as you have installed.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win.../download.aspx

Burn the downloaded.iso to dvd using an isoburner - if you don't have
one handy, use this: ( don't format the dvd - if Autoplay pops up, just
close it )

14614

Boot the dvd, windows loads files, select language and keyboard, Next.
You get a screen saying "Install Now". Don't click that, obviously -
click "Repair my Computer" at the bottom of that screen.

Hope it helps

Unfortunately, this does not work. I have Windows 7 RC installed on my
laptop and I have the burned cd handy. I did as you requested but the
Diskpart utility can't seem to save the c partition as bootable. Can the
BIOS be at fault?
