I installed updates KB958690 and KB960225 for Windows Vista yesterday. One of
them was responsible that neither my ethernet nor wifi connections worked. I
deinstalled both updates and I'm online again. I can't tell which of them
caused the problem though.

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium.

I had a problem with these updates also. Yesterday morning I awoke t
find out that the lappy had updated itself, no problem with tha
feature. What I do have a problem with is that my sound drivers wer
some how "uninstalled". The number update that morning was KB 958690.
So I promtly did a system restore from before the computer update
itself. Then this morning I woke upo to the same problem but only th
update number is KB960225. Not sure what to do...Help

Hi

KB958690 is giving me problems on a XP SP3 PC. When the update i
installed, the PC reboots, my PC will freeze at the desktop and no
respond to the keyboard or mouse. My desktop is shown and there is a re
line across the top of the screen and a red box in the middle of th
screen. I have to reboot in Safe Mode and use System Restore to restor
to a previous date. The PC has Norton Internet Security 2009. Attache

I have the same issue but on a Windows Home Server SP1 box. The updates
automatically downloaded on Mar 12th, installed on 15th (server is off on a
weekend) and since then the WHS box has no network access.

There is now no "Local Area Network" connection,, running ipconfig returns
nothing and in the system devices there are no longer any network adaptors
listed.

I have removed the updates (via add/remove programs) but this has not
helped. I also tried to install the HP network drivers again, but just get a
message saying hardware not found.

I tried copying and pasting the log of KB958690 from c:\Windows to thi
forum but the log is too long for the number of characters allowed in
reply.

I sent an email to Microsoft via the link PA Bear gave
'MS09-006: Vulnerabilities in Windows Kernel could allow remot
code execution' (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958690), it will tak
24 hours to receive a response from Microsoft

Try this: Look in the registry under HKEY_Local_Machine, Software,
Microsoft, Windows, Current Version, Run. Look to see if there is an entry
with the name of ATICCC. If there is, remove it (RightClick on it and hit
delete). Reboot. Try running the update again. Then reboot. See if that
fixes the problem. I have performed this on 2 computers already and it seems
to have fixed the "freeze" problem. Please reply back to the post and let us
know if this, indeed, fixes your problem.
