Happy New Year to all of you

I have Windows xp proffesional English version.I have installed Sp1 and
Sp2.When the windows finished the installation the IIS was not working. So I
have connected with the Internet and specific with Windowsupdate.com to
download newer vesrions for my OS.
Please notice that i also have installed Lavasoft Ad-aware ,spybot ,Norton
Antivirus and norton Internet Protect ver2004.So far so good.I am an
administrator to my PC.
When the Download finished I disabled all my third parties tools for
protection and I accepted the windows message to install updates that time.
The problem is that when i shutdown my laptop a message appeared which
notified me not to turn off my computer because update were being installed.I
did that and i didn't close my laptop for all night(please mercy on me). Then
i pull out the battery....etc etc.Now whenever i open my laptop i always get
the message that updates are ready to install and when i click to install
them nothing happens
Appear a screen saying Automatic Updates and the multiline edit control says
Initializing installation... and stays there. The progress bar doesn't move.

What has happened???Are my updates installed??How can i Disabled or
disappear this alert which affects my computer functionality??Whenever i shut
down the windows are installing updates. How can i disabled it.
I remind you that i have left opened my laptop many hours and nothing
happened.
Thank you in advance
Any ideas will be appreciated
Happy new year

Look in your logs and find out?

Start with the summary log ReportingEvents.log
in the %windir%\SoftwareDistribution directory.

If that isn't enough look at WindowsUpdate.log
in the %windir% root directory

If that isn't enough search for other *.log files which
were modified about the time that the update was run.

You may be able to find other diagnostic files by simply
searching for all files which were modified on that day,
ordering them by Date Modified (hence ordering them
by timestamp) and then finding things that are readable
from that period.

Good luck
