The Genuine Windows Validation Component, Vista

I'd my first "Problem report and solution" (KB941649) notification and I was
also taken aback by the necessity to install this component. I'd been
getting updates (Vista) for months, and they are always tidily nestled in the
"sleep/lock session/shutdown" buttons in the start menu screen. They install
when I shut down, and configure when I next start up. I'd had to wonder
whether this "Problem report and solution" thing wasn't actually a pop-up
from some spy-ware people masquerading as Microsoft, asking me to disable my
Active-X blocking, and everything. Without any intentional irony, I'd like
to know, for asking me whether my Vista is genuine, are you genuine Microsoft
yourselves? Why doesn't this update just magically percipitate like all the
others?

I have a similar problem with Active X instillation. I can not validate my
Vista as genuine , can not load X and therefore cannot load 941649. When i
try the alternative method of validation Internet explorer just closes down.
any thoughts???
