how to get an alert when a message comes in?

Is there a way to get an audible alert when a message comes in?

I have "Play a sound when contacts send a message" set, but the ONLY time I
get a sound is if I have maximized another non-Messenger window and for the
FIRST message do I hear a sound.

I want an audible alert when EVERY message comes in.

Is that possible?

Unfortunately, no. The audible alert only plays when the message box is out
of focus.

It doesn't, but with the scripting interface it's easily possible to add
it now.
