I get and error message when I try to update with Vista Ultimate

I'm running Vista Ultimate and can not get Windows Update to work. I get an
error message that says "Windows cound not search for new updates" and Errors
found: Code 800700C1.

Are you running on a domain using WSUS? If so, you must install WSUS SP1
before your Vista machine can "talk" to WSUS, even if you have flagged Vista
updates for download/install in WSUS.

I"m using Comcast. I assume that this means i'm not using WSUS, but then I
don't really know what that means.

It looks like my root problem was different that yours. My comments related
to a computer connected to a Microsoft active directory domain with Windows
Software Updates Services (a company's internal update server) installed.

If you are using a single machine simply connected to a broadband connection
and trying to get updates directly from Microsoft's website, my comments
don't apply to you.

I had a similar error where my computer was going way too slow during
updates. svchost was running out of control and grabbing all of the cpu.

From a few posts, including this one -

it looks like Microsoft Update is causing the problem. If you could change
your update settings to revert back to Windows Update, perhaps that will
solve the problem.
