When I click on my Windows Update icon (or even when I go directly to
wuapp.exe), instead of going to the Windows Update page, a command prompt
window opens (C:\Windows\System32\wuapp.exe) that is empty beyond that, and
then an error message stating "NTVDM.EXE has stopped working" "A problem
caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program
and notify you if a solution is available." A "close program" button is the
only option to choose. I have e-mailed MS tech support and they sent me
instructions to try some things and send them logs and screen shots, which I
did, but it's been over a week (sigh....) and they have not gotten back to
me. I am unable to get Windows Update to work. Does anyone know how I can
fix this? I am running Windows Vista Home Premium that came installed on a
new Dell XPS 410. (I had a previous problem with Windows Update suddenly not
functioning and MS "fixed" that. Then it worked for a while and now this.)
