Hi,
I accidentally installed Internet Explorer 8 and now cannot connect to
mapquest.com in spite of having tried everything including compatibility mode.
How do I get rid of it and download Internet Explorer 7? Everytime I go to
the Microsoft.com web site to download Internet Explorer 7 it sends me to
the Internet 8 web pages. Hence, I cannot download Internet Explorer 7 from
Microsoft. Very frustrating. Time to buy an Apple computer and get rid of
this nonsense?

Always state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista 64-bit SP2;
Win7 RC; Win7) when posting in a forum or newsgroup. Please do so in your
next reply.

Time to buy an Apple computer and get rid of
: this nonsense?

Just make sure you don't have any Windows-based programs that you need to
keep.

And, don't let the doorknob hit you on the way out.

MS Internet Explorer 8 connect to Mapquest from my computer. Windows 7
(64-bit). Tried both the 32-bit version, and the 64-bit version of MSIE8.
Both work.

Which OS do you have? If Windows Vista, or earlier, did you upgrade to IE8?
If so, uninstalling it through "Add/Remove programs" should automatically
revert to IE7. You may have to also uninstall SP3 first; assuming you
installed SP3, then upgraded to IE8.

Try the uninstall procedure first. You won't be able to install MSIE 7 over
MSIE 8, anyway.

Or learn how to use "this nonsense".

I can connect to Mapquest with MSIE 8 in Windows 7.

> How do I get rid of it and download Internet Explorer 7?

If you are on Windows Vista, you should be able to uninstall MSIE 8 through
"Add/Remove" programs. Same with Windows XP. That should revert you to MSIE
7, assuming you didn't install a Service Pack before updating the browser.

AFAIK, MSIE 8 won't allow you to install MSIE 7 while it resident on the
system. You have to uninstall MSIE 8, first.

If compatibility mode did not solve any problems for you, another thing I
might suggest is making sure mapquest is listed under your trusted sites
list, under internet options. Depending on the level of security you are
browsing at, this could be your problem.
Hope this helps!
