I would like to delete Microsoft Update Program an reinstall Windows Update
Program. My PC will not update in Microsoft Updates. I keep getting errors. I
have two80gig harddrives an the other shows Windows Updates program an it
updates all the updates on Tuesday OK. I do switch harddrive cables an
connectors when I use either one. I keep Personel Items on one harddrive an
do all my surfing on the other. It can be a pain to keep switching but I feel
safer. Thanks all an Happy and Safe Holdays to all.

Create a shortcut with Target set to:

%SystemRoot%\system32\wupdmgr.exe

Pin it to Start Menu or copy shortcut to your C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Start Menu or C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USERNAME]\Start Menu,
depending if you want everyone to have access or just you.

Make sure the file exists under C:\windows\system32

Open Microsoft Update.
Click "Change Settings" on the left side.
Scroll down and check appropriate box.
Click "Apply changes now" button.

This page gives an easier solution:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=901037
Near the bottom "I am currently using..."

Will that restore the shortcut to your computer so that you can click on it
and have it connect to the Windows Update web-site?

Will it add it to Start Menu somewhere?

When Microsoft update is added, a new shortcut Microsoft Update is added.
The Windows Update shortcut remains but is redirected to Microsoft Update.
So there are two shortcuts to Microsoft Update.

When Windows Update is reinstated, the shortcut works as normal for Windows
Update.

What if you deleted the Windows Update shortcut? Will it be reinstated?

No.
However most will not delete the shortcut immediately.
Some will never delete it.
As long as the shortcut remains, it will revert to directing to Windows
Update.
I deleted it because I was pretty certain I would not go back to Windows
Update.

You and me both.

That is why I gave instructions on how to put it back.
