I also just uninstalled SP3, and still got the error message with SP2. I did
then find in the archive that error#8007045A with XP was also a problem back
in 2004. I tried one solution
"I had this problem and fixed it by reinstalling the windows update
components (
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...code/iuctl.cab),
as
described in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;836974"
and this seemed to solve the problem with that error message.
However, as it turns out although when I check at
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/admin, it is correctly identified as Windows
XP, 32-bit (x86) with Internet Explorer 7,
it still seems that my correct system is not recognized for downloads.
I learned this from going to Microsoft Download Center to reinstall SP3, and
was prompted to install Silverlight to try the Beta Version. This
installation did not work and I got this message: Microsoft Silverlight may
not be supported on your computer's hardware or operating system. (OS is
being identified at Win2000(although I have XP) and I have IE7, and that
combination is not supported)
Furthermore, installing my McAfee updates also did not work.
So now the question is - how do I get my system to be correctly identified
to among other things allow Windows Update to operate properly?
