Hello,

I searched the newsgroup and discovered a lot of people who were getting
this corrected it, always related to a proxy configuration. However, we do
not run a Proxy here. I'm running NT2K3 ; Windows Update worked after the
install of the operating system. I'm sorry, I can't pinpoint when it stopped
working. Any insight?

Thank You for your time.

Have you checked in the WindowsUpdate.log located in the %windir% for
error codes or is the error from the Windows Update site ?
The issue stems from "something" blocking access to WU and can be caused
by a firewall or a router.

Thank you for the info. I see the failures in that log now. Though why,
remains a mystery, as we don't use Proxy Servers and there are no router
rules/filters to disallow that traffic.

I found I could manually download all updates from the v4 Windows Update
Catalog site, and apply them manually. After doing so, whatever got "broke"
when MS thrust WU v6 on us, got fixed. WindowsUpdate now works. I have to
hope that works equally well in our production environment on those machines
whose WU got "broke" when we wer forced to go to WU v6.

Thanx again for your response.
