I have tired everything I can think of and even tried what Microsoft says to
do to fix the problem and still nothing.

So if someone can please point me in the right direction as to fixing this
problem so that I can update the security patches, I'd be more then grateful.

You can list them from Windows Update, and then use microsoft download center
to download them one at a time. I'm in the same boat. Haven't figured it
out yet, but it started with upgrading to XP SP2.

Hi

Rename (or just delete) the SoftwareDistribution folder and
see if it helps.

You can use the procedure described here:

http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=21&ln=en

Note that a side effect of renaming or deleting the SoftwareDistribution
folder is that you lose your WU v5 History listing (not critical).

(later on, you can just delete the renamed SoftwareDistribution
folder)

Hello,

I had the same problem but finally got around it by doing the following:

I added the following websites as trusted websites in the browser:
http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://download.windowsupdate.com

I have a Norton Antivirus Firewall, so, I selected the Personal Firewall
selection(found within Status & Settings), chose Configure > clicked on the
Home Networking Tab > and clicked on "Add..."
From here I entered my first address to allow, or permit access to:
windowsupdate.microsoft.com
and also added (just in case):
v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
Clicked on OK. And closed Norton.
Went back in to Microsoft's website, and was able to download the updates.

Hope it helps.
