exit IE. then delete everything in the temporary internet
folder. then go back to windows update and scan.

The Windows update ran ok for about 2 days after I
upgrade to the SP2 build 2162. I have to say the v5 of
Windows update is very unpredictable and very difficult
to troubleshoot.

Try renaming the file: "wuweb.dll" to "wuweb.old" under
"%systemroot%\system32." This should revert you back to Windows
Update v4.

BTW, make sure IE is closed before you do this.
