Update: I couldn't get it to work with the Microtek softeware
Whenever I tried to use the ScanMaker program (several different versions
tried), the Fax & Scan software appeared, and they seemed to lock each other
out of using the device. The Fax & Scan often kept giving an error dialog in
a loop, and had to be End Tasked. So I've unloaded ScanMaker and I can use
the scanner with Fax & Scan, but it looks inferior and I also can't use the
buttons on the scanner itself (eg to photocopy used to be a matter of
pressing a single button; now I've got to Scan and Print).
I'm pretty sure that Snamaker would work if left to its own devices (pun
intended), I don't believe the drivers a incompatible per se, but the
intrusive nature of Fax & Scan prevents it from working. It's a shame that
it isn't possible to configure a profile in Fax & Scan that stops it from
using a device.
If anyone's hit the same problem and been more successful I'd be interested
to know!

Arfur
