A few days ago, i started getting random MSN IM contact requests from people
I do not know. Each time my machine reboots I get a minimum of 5 random
requests. I have to spend the time to go through each one and block and
report them as spam. Why has this all the sudden appeared? How do I stop it?

Greetings,

There's a few possibilities. The first and most common lately, are requests from your
Windows Live Space. If you update your space regularly, this may be the cause. If this is
the case, you'll also be getting requests via e-mail to add them to your network. Is that
happening?

If not, then they're just regular standard old requests.

Also, are they similar in any way (all appear to be from a specific country or anything like
that)?

Apparently there is another wave of Messenger spammers trying their hand at
getting into people's contact lists. I'm getting them, too, and they are not
network invites. They are Messenger contact invites. The last wave was female
first names with numbers, this wave doesn't have that, the user names are pretty
random looking.

I do update my Spaces regularily but I have never had this happen. It
happened again this AM. I usally get 4 reqests, mostly from out of the
country. Is there anyway I can prevent this from happening?

I just wonder how to stop this because i have to take the time at each reboot
to deal with it. Would love ideas to stop this.

I'm not aware of any way to stop it. I get it on accounts that I restrict to
people that I allow.
On http://profile.live.com you can set permissions for various invitations, but
Messenger Contacts isn't among them.
