Getting rid of junk software

I am now in the process of getting rid of the junkware (crapware) from my new
Sony Vaio Vista laptop. I'd like some ideas how to get rid of ALL crapware
and residual files.

This is what I've done so far:

1) Control Panel-Remove Programs. I removed all obviously unwanted programs
such as AOL, Napster, Sony Games, etc.

2) I went to Menu-Search-"msconfig"-Startup. I disabled all obvious useless
startup programs such as Welcome Center, Vaio Productivity pop-up bar
(nothing but links to websites that try to sell you stuff) AOL, Napster junk,
etc.

3) I am now in the process of tracking down the files/folders of the
junkware by going into the Program files. (It's like seeking out and
destroying vampires,) I found one file rich with crapware folders.
Computer-C:-Program files-Sony-First Experience-Welcome Center. I don't know
if I can delete these files because I don't know if any of them are used in
other usefull programs.

Any ideas or suggestions of cleaning out the crapware programs and files?

I thank you in advance...

oscar

You should not use msconfig since vista has a better program for this. Block
programs using their own settings--you know the "Load at every boot" settings
in the program's Options. Then--Use Windows Defender's Software Explorer in
vista to block programs from loading that don't have options you can change.
Then if you find you blocked something you need, you can unblock it. Sony's
Welcome Center should not be tampered with. It's probably vista's Welcome
Center that you should run once and select "do not start this at boot again."

I went through a similar process a short time back. The only thing different
I did was to do an image backup with Acronis before I started. When I
completed the purge I did another complete backup. Don't you just love all
that "free" stuff they give you?

I found a program to remove junkware/crapware:

http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/home

I looked at its features. I didn't use it. I think one can do just as well
by using Control Panel-Remove Programs.

Any other thoughts?
