getting windows live messenger to run under vista machine

i have tried to install messenger on my machine it appears to install
correctly. when i try to open the program it opens but never shows on the
desktop. i know it has loaded when i check the task manager in the processes
tab if i try to open several times they all show in there as well.

i have uninstalled messenger, reinstalled vista and formatted the hard drive
installed vista then tried messenger several times but to no avail

any ideas as why this is so or just another product that does no work with
vista

I have my broadband conection runing through just a swicth, which also runs
to my laptop and it runs messenger no probs on XP

Hi There,

Did you download the Winodws Live Messenger while in Vista, or did you
install the one downloaded while in XP on your Vista partition?

Download and install while in Vista.

When you are in Windows Vista, does Windows Live Messenger run in the
Notification area? Meaning. Does it load this, before you sign in? What is
the Drive Letter assignment for Windows Vista, when you are in Vista?
