I had good SP1 Windows XP Pro working. After installing SP2 (to make it even
better and more secure), Windows did not recognize my graphic card (NVIDIA
GeForce2 MX100/200). After disabling default monitor (just to force Windows
to find what has worked under SP1 - be discouraged to try it!), Windows shows
black screen after every restart (without or with windows original cd, also
in safe mode). Nothing helps further - another graphic card, another monitor,
hard disk inserted to another healthy computer. In safe mode with command
prompt I could start programs, but how to access device manager? What to
delete or copy even to force Windows to recall default monitor (or grafic
card)? I could even arrange computer with 2 slots for hard disk, where my
damaged (SP2) would be second - but what to do then? There must be a backup
of SP1, but how to reinstall it, when my monitor shows nothing at all? My
administrator can format my disk or install windows but with lost of registry
settings. Any ideas else?
