I am running vista business edtion, office 2007, gif animations do not work.
I have contacted microsoft support, no answer, been through technet, no
answer.
Am I to assume that microsoft has decided to simply deny me the right to use
my computer as I see fit?

Hi,

Something may be blocking animation, but it's not Microsoft. What are you
using to view .gif's? Certain applications do not support the animation
itself and will only display the initial image.

Rick, I think he may be referring to right-click then "Preview" in XP would
bring up Windows Picture & Fax Viewer; animated gifs would animate.

In Vista, the "new" Windows Photo Gallery just shows the static gif,
non-animating.

It appears one cannot get rid of Windows Photo Gallery crap and put Picture
& Fax Viewer on Vista.

A bummer for me, because I create animated gifs for presentations - I like
to just right-click/Preview to check alignment etc.

Now I have to open them in Irfanview or other non-MS software. It's nuts,
Nutcase :-)

What's Bill got against animated gif?

Paddy

Hi Paddy,

I have a feeling you are correct, 'tis what I suspect as well which is why I
asked. However, the OP mentioned Office 2007, so I'm not sure what they are
using.

Don't know why they took the animation out of the new gallery, especially
since it does play videos now. Seems kind of back-asswards to me.

I bugged it during the Beta, and got the "Won't Fix", "By Design",
"Resolved", "Closed". I think it was a daft decision too.

Hmmm. I had made animated gifs to go on Powerpoint 2003. Just checked a
slide show on Office 2007 Powerpoint (installed Office 2007 Ultimate just
yesterday). The animated gifs work fine.

It is only animation in Preview in Picture & Fax Viewer that's been lost.

Right, so if OP is not able to get animations in an office program, then
there's a problem. But, as you surmised, it's just the pix-n-fax viewer,
then it isn't.
