Glitches encountered installing (Sp1 for vista 64)

Glitches I encountered while installing Sp1 rc 1 on my Vista 64 system.

Registry hack cmd worked fine.
Windows update found Kb 935509 & installed,I rebooted
Windows update found kb 938371 v1.008 & proceeded to install......installed
failed...so I tried again ....2nd time updated installed
sussulfully.......rebooted.
Windows update found kb937287 x64 & installed it (no errors)...I
rebooted....upon reboot I got a BSOD.....with some nonsense about a possible
virus and or a device driver that did not install properly.....I
ignored....& rebooted. Screen came up with "start windows normally"
highlighted,I clicked & continued on.Desktop drew fine this time.
Windows updated found the sp1 & installed it fine.Quite the process (3
stages,2 stages on shutdown then 3of 3 on re-boot).
Two things I noticed right away on my machine were:
1. system booted much faster.
2. windows update wanted to check for updates,but did not find
any....strange I thought....

I've also had big problems installing KB935509.

It fails every time with a generic error code of 80004005

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 and it auto reboots 3 times before failing to
install it.

I've installed the x64 update of KB935509 from the windows update website
but it doesn't show in my installed program update files and when I turn on
auto updates it says KB935509 is available for update.

I can't get SP1 or the pre-requisites until this is installed and my OS is
horribly laggy and loads of bugs. (All Adobe Products randomly stop
responding as an when....graphics drivers hang then recover sending
everything into garish colours and the wrong resolution are but a few to
mention that are insanely annoying)

For info I'm running an Intel Quad Core 6600 with 2GB RAM and 2x GeForce
6800 GTX graphics cards in SLI mode with 900W PSU with seperate SLI power
supply and SLI bridge.

Try a Clean Boot http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 in order to install
the script and the prerequisites.

You guys seem quite up to date. Heres my situation and by the sounds of it I
am happy I purcased an new computer choosing to keep xp pro then purchasing
the full 32 bit version of windows Vista home premium- I am waiting for 64
bit discs to arrive but in the meantime today i formatted my entire drive and
I am going to start fresh with reinstalling my Vista but as a dual boot. When
I reinstalled my xp it created two partitions - one of them says preload (C)
107.27 and 96.86 GB free and the second one is Service 001 (D) 4.52GB 2.52 GB
free
This is a 120 gb Laptop with 8 gigs of ram

My question is how do I go about installing the vista (full-version) and
when the 64 bit discs arrive do I just reinstall overtop of the 32 bit
version?

The D: drive is probably the recovery partition. You do not want to do
anything with it. Its purpose is to restore your computer to factory
condition should you have to recover from a catastrophic failure of the OS.
You probably overwrote the master boot record which had the D: partition
hidden. With that code gone you can now see what has been there all along.

You will have to do a fresh installation of Windows to migrate from Vista
x86 to Vista x64. You cannot upgrade in place across platforms. That means
you will boot with the x64 dvd and install from scratch. You will use the
same product key and you will install the 64-bit version of Vista Home
Premium. You can use Windows Easy Transfer wizard in VHP to copy your files
and settings to intermediate storage before starting and then after
installation you can use WET again to write your files and settings to your
new x64 edition. You will have to reinstall your applications. You should
download all the Vista x64 drivers from the laptop manufacturer's website
and write them to a cd for use after the installation of the x64 edition.
The drivers may all be included on the Vista x64 dvd or on Windows Update
but don't count on it.
