Gmail in Windows mail

I can not send nor receive e-mail (gmail) through Windows mail anymore.

I know this question has been up here before but in spite of excellent
information it still doesn´t want to fly.

The name of my internet provider here in Sweden is www.comhem.se.

The POPImaptroubleshooter from Google says:
"This account is skipped when fetching new mail".

The Windows mail says (in translation from Swedish):
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account: 'Gmail',
Server: 'smtp.gmail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): > Yes,
Socket Error: 10013, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I have followed the instuctions of settings in this link:
http://www.vista4beginners.com/Windows-Mail-Gmail

The settings in the Windows mail are:
pop.gmail.com
smtp.gmail.com

The Gmail account - Settings -Forwarding and POP/IMAP asks:
1. Status: POP is activated for all mails that has arrived since 11.25
o Enable POP for all mail
o Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on
o Disable POP

I have clicked “Enable POP for all mail” and saved the settings. BUT every
time I go in there again it has become unclicked!

Mobile phone
It seems my mobile phone is still fetching mail from Gmail with no problem
using POP3. Well it did the other day. The port settings are:
Incoming port: 995
Outgoing port: 25

Furthermore
I do have two fire walls active. I have tried closing down first the Windows
firewall and then the F-secure firewall (never both of them), with no result.

I have also tried the Windows mail settings with different ports. For
example 465/995, 25/995, 25/110 and 465/993. No result.

Can someone give me an idea how to work this out?

/Ove

Your settings are correct for a Gmail POP account. However,
if your mobile phone is checking the same account, you may be
running into a Gmail peculiarity where they only allow mail to be
downloaded once. Users with more than one mail client or device
need to use the special 'Recent' parameter, see
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...n&answer=47948

If that does not resolve your problem, let us know which antivirus
you are running. Some of them cause problems with Windows Mail
over time.

Hallo and thank you for a very swift reply. I really appreciate it.

I followed your suggested settings in the Windows mail program with the
recent parameter but it didn´t help.
I alsoobserved that the problem is still there with the "enable pop" marker
still becoming unclicked in the Gmail settings.

My anti virus is Windows Defender and F-Secure Internet Security 9.00.

Don´t know if this is important but I recently bought and installed a
probgram called Uniblue Registrybooster 2010.
When I try to run it it says: "There is a problem with your hosts file.
Please contact Uniblue Customer Support"

Disable your Anti Virus from scanning your in and outgoing emails by uninstalling
your Anti Virus and then re-installing it without the email integration(scanning)
option

Also read the following

It has been my experience that registry cleaners cause more
problems than they solve. Vey few tech-savvy specialists
recommend them.
Do a trial uninstall of your registry cleaner, reboot, then try
Windows Mail again. If no improvement, do a trial uninstall of your
antivirus, reboot, then try Windows Mail again.

Well Mr Gary and Mr Peter!

Thank you ever so much! It worked!!!

The steps I have taken are:
A. Uninstalled the Uniblue Registrybooster 2010.

B. Made adjustments in the F-secure settings as follows (amateurly
translated from the swedish program verison into english):

1. Under “Virus and spy programs” I have unclicked “search for and delete
virus from e-post messages”.

2. I have deactivated the firewall (already have the Windows firewall).

3. Under program control I saw that under “outgoing” it was clicked “deny”.
I clicked to “allow” under the “information” marker.

4. Under “e-mail filtering” I have deactivated the whole function.

All other settings in the Windows Mail are as before. Oddly enough the
"enable pop" marker still becomes unclicked in the Gmail settings but it
works anyway.

The result
A. Windows Mail now works! I can send and receive Gmail in the Windows mail.

B. A side effect is that I have received 700 mails that were earlier deleted
dating from the dark ages and on wards. But that is all deleted and sorted
out now.

As a bonus it still works to receive Gmail in the mobile phone.

I have to take my hat off for your proffessional information!

Yet, I have to say that the way the different error messages initially were
presented did not at all make suspect there was something wrong with the
antivirus settings (I mean, socket-error 10013 sounds like a serious machinal
problem problem or something, far away from the F-secure settings). So I
learned something new about this antivirus overkill. Well I guess it could
have been the Uniblue program too but I rather suspect the settings in the
F-Secure program.

Regardless, thank you ever so much! This information was really helpful.

/Ove, Stockholm
