Going from safe to normal ,ode

Recently the wife's Vista 64 bit box shut down wrong or something and
when it restarted it asked how to start - Safe, Normal, ETC. When it
did it once before I started it in normal and everything was fine.

Well she started it in safe mode. How do I get it back to starting
normaly - in normal mode- again??

Simply click Start > Restart.

I know this is a Vista group but if the same ever happens to my XP box
does the same hold true?

Yes, unless you deliberately invoke Safe Mode again, by pressing <F8>
during the boot process.
