I have tried several times at several different occasions since Vista SP1
came out and I still can't get it to install. It goes through all steps
until the 3rd one then it says it failed and is reverting back. I have no
disc, it came installed on my laptop. Other than using the backup disc to
install to original state and losing all my programs that is the only other
option I see. If that is the case I will wait until the new OS comes out
and go from there.

Free installation and compatibility support for Vista SP1 ended Wednesday,
18 Mar-09 after being available for a full year. Other than paying what
will probably be an exorbitant amount to obtain support from MS, I think
you're going to have to back-up your personal data and use either this
"backup disc" or the hidden Recovery partition to return the machine to OOBE
state, Debbie.

Good luck!

Thanks. I was afraid of that. It wouldn't be such aproblem but my laptop
doesn't have a dvd burner just reader so I would have to backup on CD's
which will probably be like 20 some. It was 7 just for the vista backup to
original state.

Contact the manufacturer. You may be able to do an in-place upgrade using
the hidden Recovery partition. If so, your data won't be touched, Debbie.
