Google poisoned Vista

You guy berate Vista nonstop but I hate Google. Nobody pushes Vista down
your throat if you cannot swallow it. No matter what I try to install Google
comes in some incarnation. Today I tried to install my new WD MyBook
software. This idiotic thing has Google as a part of the package. Nobody
asked me if I wanted to have Google Desktop, Google Toolbar, Google
PhotoShop, Google This, Google That. Altogether close to 6 Google malware
ended up in my registry.

I uninstalled them all but it did manage to take a revenge. Now when I go to
MSDN website and try to sign is for my threads I get kicked out immediately.
It says "You've signed out successfully." It does not allow me to get in.

I hope they will get sued for this. Some lawyers are missing a big, fat
chance to get rich in here.

I go to another machine, also Vista and everything is hunky-dory.

Do I have to roll my Vista back again to pre WD MyBook time?

Delete Internet Explorer's cookies and you'll be able
to sign in properly to the MSDN web site.

1. In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
2. On the General tab, Under Browsing History, click Delete.
In the Delete Browsing History dialog box, click Delete Cookies.
3. Click OK to confirm deletion of all cookies in the Temporary Internet Files folder.

I'd call Western Digital every hour and fuss like the third monkey on Noah's
gangplank.

If they can't tell you how to install their backup programs without the
crapware, return the goddamn thing.

As it turns out, I am going, this very evening, to buy a backup external
hard drive. Not that I was after Western Digital's, but your post sure
turned me off. I'm think more along the lines of:

I hope you noticed that is an enclosure, not a complete hard drive. I only
point this out because someone I work with purchased an enclosure, thinking
he was getting a great deal paying only $50.00 for an external hard drive
only to discover it didn't actually do anything when he hooked it up, since
it had no drive in it. :-)

I have a Western Digital MyBook, it came with no backup software (I bought
the cheap one) but it did include all of the Google stuff and when I first
hooked it up it attempted to install all of it.

Nipped that in the bud, but almost everything I download these days has some
bit of Google "Stuff" attached to it and it's a little annoying to have to
un-check the "Install Google 'whatever'" with everything . . . is Google
really trying to take over the world? I'm starting to believe it. :-)

Oh, Gary, thank you very much. I am not at that machine now but I am
absolutely certain it will work.

It's been my standing policy, no matter what to stick with MS and also with
DELL. It is not to say that everything they offer is trouble free. Of course
there are problems but on the scale of things they are just microscopic as
compared with what you get from so called 3-rd PARTY.

I got all photo capabilities with my Ultimate, but NO, somebody installed
Adobe PhotoCrap. I take 10 pictures a year. OK, I can put up with Adobe. At
least I've known them for a long time. Now, I got Google's photo software.
That was just too much.

And if you uninstall them, troubles ensue, then a week later they are back
on your desktop.

Down with Google.

Listen Bob,

I am sorry but before you changed your mind to buy another hardware,
consider the following. What is the guarantee that another manufacturer does
not have twice as much crap in that nice looking box. WD is a fine hardware
overall. In terms of endurance I do trust them. I've bought a few internal
hard drives and they work flawlessly. I hope when I clean them out of the
viruses they will work for me.

Best Buy had a great deal. The same WD 500Gb MyBook at DELL was $169.00
stand alone and $149 in a package with $5000 computer I bought today. Of
course I declined the offer of WD ExtHD. I bought two MyBook(s) at $119.00
apiece. I save $80 dollars.

Now, Google crap was not the end of the day. There were two more visitors on
my desktop. I thought they came as a free lunch with WD, no way. One was
Mimeo AutoBackup, the other one Mimeo AutoSynch. there are considerable
backup capabilities in Vista, why do I need those? When I reboot my computer
they both popped up with a cheerful reminder that I have 29 days left for
evaluation and should cough up $29.00 to purchase. WD really takes care of
you.

I uninstalled both at once. The Google screw up (my access to MSDN Forums)
was the only thing remaining.

Calling WD is a naive idea. I doubt there are phone numbers in the virtual
space where they dwell. If I do get hold of someone (I have to ask my
secretary to dial their number for an hour) that person will be located in
New Delhi and pretend that he does not understand what I am talking about.
They all speak pidgin English I do not comprehend. At best I get get a
"live" talk with am email concierge. I may as well do it.

So, all thing considered, WD should not be condemned. Just get ready for
some minor disappointments.

I kind of got scared after reading your post. You should weigh all pros and
cons.

I just wanted to show people that Vista is OK. I do not blame MS for what
happened. 3-rd Parties take advantage of the transition period. MS did its
best to provide things people buy from 3-rd parties and get stuck with them.
Now they all push them down your throat.

Michael, it all makes sense what you said. I bought my Mybook, actually two
at Best Buy yesterday at impressive discount $50 per unit. The original
price was $169, I got it for 119.00.

I thought they did it out of desperation because the papers said
preChristmas season was bad and they were hoping to make up for shortfall
before 1st of Jan. The Store was packed.

I am wondering though if they made a deal with Google and the other 'Mimeo"
crapmaker to discount the units and they are paid a slice of the sale.

No, I did not buy a shell. I already formatted one with NTFS since they are
FAT32 - an inconvenience. The other one is in the disk management GUI
already $28% formatted.

There was another adventure with it as well. I do not want to go into
detail. I just want to mention that for some reason on one machine the
install went very smoothly and on the other one the Google windows kept
popping up again and again about 20 times until I got sick and uninstalled
them all. On another machine they are still sitting quietly awaiting
execution like Saddam Hussein. I savor my power over them.
