What happens when you type

in the Address Bar and then press the Enter key?

Have you tried RTFM? IE Help: Change or choose a search provider in
Internet Explorer

Is MSN or Windows Live Toolbar installed?

Go to www.google.com and search from there. You can download the Google
Search tool and install it into IE, then click TOOLS>OPTIONS>Search
Settings, and make Google Search the default and disable the other search
engines/tools (Windows Live Search is the default for IE8).

I set Google as my default search provider on IE8.

Have you tried clicking the downward pointing arrow at the right of the
search box (the one that says "Bing"), and then selecting "Manage search
providers" and following the instructions?

I am having the same problem and I have done all the things suggested above
with no luck. Then I tried to uninstall IE8 and it wouldn't unistall because
it couldn't find some of the files to copy. I want my google and yahoo
search engines to work, but Bing seems to have taken over. Any suggestions
would be appreciated.

When I do this, I get to the google home page (just has the google search
box), type in my search words, and get another blank page that says DONE on
the bottom left corner. I try the same search from the search box in the
upper left hand corner, and get the same blank page with DONE on the bottom
left. Its driving me crazy....I have Windows XP...

Use View Source (Alt-V,c) to see if your "blank page" is really blank.
Often what this means is that you're looking at a redirect implemented
in HTML which is being blocked for some reason, such as Active Scripting
being disabled, in which case setting Security Settings to Default Level
would avoid the problem symptom.

Robert, here's what I get when I do the Alt vc thing on a 'blank' page that
comes up after trying a search in the search window:
(in notepad)
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<HTML><HEAD>
<META content="text/html; charset=utf-8" http-equiv=Content-Type></HEAD>
<BODY></BODY></HTML>
